Tiny Polaroid Magnets

I had a birthday this month and received the cutest gift from my sister-in-law.....these tiny Polaroid magnets.

The photos are from our summer vacation last July.
We spent some time with them at their lake house in Alabama.

The kids had a blast.

I don't know where she purchased these, but I found this Etsy shop that does them.

Aren't they fun?

Better Homes and Gardens - May 2013

There's a great modern farmhouse in the May issue of BH&G.  The designer is Jill Sharp Brinson. I really like her style, but what caught my eye in the issue was this fabric backed bakers rack.

What a great way to add a little color and pattern.

I may be updating my bakers rack soon.

Have you seen the May issue of BH&G?  Lots of good stuff!

New Rug for the Office

I was so happy to find a new rug for our office at TJ Maxx recently.

Our old rug was from Target and the more I vacuumed it, the more it started coming apart.
I know, the easy and logical thing would have been to vacuum less :)  Unfortunately, Sadie's
dog bed is also in the office so the rug gets lots of her hair.

A new rug meant time to rearrange the office too, right?
(This is the view from the hallway.)

And, the view from the command center...
(I posted here about my clipboard message center.)

The only other project on the list for this room is new drapes.

I purchased this "shower curtain" on clearance several months ago.  I like the pattern and colors,
I just haven't decided how I want to turn one shower curtain into two drapery panels???

Have you been lucky at TJ Maxx (or Marshall's or Home Goods) lately?

Love these stores!!!

New Blog Header

I'm excited about my new blog header, especially because it was a gift from a special friend, neighbor, and fellow blogger, Heather @ My Everyday Graces.

Thank you, Heather, for your wonderful friendship and, of course, your never ending blog help :)

Heather enlisted the services of Lynsey @ Shiny Magic for my new design.
Thank you, Lynsey, for a refreshing change to my header.

Cute window shade from scraps

My sewing techniques are not for the faint of heart.

Let's just say I'm never going to get paid for any of my sewing creations,
but that's okay as long as I can live with them.

Here's my new window shade in our hallway upstairs.

(There used to be a paper shade here that cost me a total of $2.99,
so I didn't feel too bad about replacing it.  You can see that post here.)

This new shade is made from scraps of leftover fabric from various projects.  The brown and white print
was leftover from a chair seat I covered at our kitchen desk years ago.  The brown trim on the edges was originally a tablecloth, and the lining is leftover Unbleached Natural Osnaburg that I've used for several projects....everything from pillows to printing on the fabric in the printer (it's great for that).

Here's how it started...

I didn't even sew a rod pocket for the shade.....the top of the shade is just tucked over a tension rod,
so I wasn't too concerned about the finished look.

I literally tucked the ends inside the shade and sewed a straight line across the bottom to hem it.
(Like I said, not for the faint of heart when it comes to the serious seamstress...)

Done!

The "pleats" are in place with additional tension rods.

I saw this genius idea at Imparting Grace.
(This is a wonderful blog you should check out when you get a minute.)

Have a great weekend!

I love homemade cards ~

I celebrated another birthday yesterday!

It was a beautiful, sunny day here in the Northwest, but my
day was made extra special by this awesome homemade card from my daughter.

Thanks, Em!
