Father's Day Gift Idea for the Sports Fan

I know Father's Day is in June, but to be honest, I'm not even sure of the exact date.

(Life has been a little crazy lately trying to finish the school year and
schedule all the summer activities - sports, camps, vacations, etc)

I wanted to share a gift we gave my husband a few years ago.  He's a University of Alabama Alumni, and when AL won the National Championship in 2010 we were very excited (since then they have won two more championships).

During the football season we snapped this picture -

I had the picture framed, and then went one step further by making a Wordle
with Alabama football words that would have significant meaning to that winning season.

I used players names, football terms, the name of the stadium, and even, "Heisman Trophy", (because one of their players won that the same year).  It was a lot of fun to make.

I framed the two pictures identically and they now reside in our home office.

My husband really liked the gift, but I think he enjoyed the National Championship win even more!

Do you have a husband or father who's a sports fan?
This could be done for any sport or activity that the man in your house enjoys.

Have a great weekend!

I saw this on facebook and had to share...

Anyone else guilty of this?

Have a great Memorial Weekend!

Off the map ~

I've been off the map and out of the blog loop for a couple of weeks now, and I've missed it!  Sometimes life gets in the way.  What are you going to do???

We did have a successful garage sale over the weekend.   That in itself kept me busy for several days and nights.  What is it about garage sales that completely drains me, not only physically, but mentally too?  It's taken me two days to recover :)

In all honesty, while it was a lot of work, it was also a lot of fun because I did the sale with friends.  They brought ALL their hoarding to my garage!

Just look at this...

These photos were taken the night before.  We had everything crammed into my garage with hopes of moving lots out to the driveway Friday morning.  The weather was looking a little unpredictable.

Isn't it interesting how much the electronics have changed at garage sales with the constant updating of technology?  We had radios (what's that?), CD players, DVD players (what ever happened to VHS?), computers, etc

And these...everyone still enjoys a good read on paper!

With 7 kids between us, there was no shortage of outgrown clothing and games.

And, all the house decor that needs updating (that's the fun part)!

 And, the holiday pretties!

These were a steal for the buyers.

Anything left over went to Goodwill or the local Caring Closet.

Now to re-organize all those closets and drawers that things were pulled from over the past month.

Anybody else planning a garage sale this summer?

A little space to hide ~

As my kids are entering their teenage years, I'm finding I need a place to hide on occasion.  Over the weekend I created my little "getaway" on the balcony off our bedroom.

This is how it looked before.

We haven't used the balcony much because when you sit you're at eye level with the railing, which doesn't leave much scenery.  This is the view.  You used to see a lot more of the houses behind us, but all the trees have really grown!

And, this is the view below of our patio.

As I find myself needing to getaway more and more, I decided I didn't need a view....just a little peace and quiet.

I like being out there and just listening to the sounds around me, or taking a book to enjoy!

You see that cucumber water?  A friend shared that combo with me, tastes like you're at the spa!

My kids couldn't find me a couple of times over the weekend, but now I think they're on to me.

How do you getaway?

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

On May 11th, my daughter and I will be walking for our 4th year in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk.  We are part of a team called 'Friends of De Sac'.  A very good friend of mine beat breast cancer a couple of years ago and formed the team.  She lives in a great Cul De Sac (hence the team name) full of supportive friends/neighbors.  These are some of our t-shirts from the past few years.

And, our 2013 t-shirt.

This is a white t-shirt that we're going to tie dye pink this weekend!

This year my daughter devoted a 6th grade school project to fundraising for the event.

She set a goal to raise $200, and so far she's raised $220!!!

You can find out more about the walk at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer website.
